Growing up at the base of the wild mountains surrounding Juneau, Alaska, his closest friends were a troupe of traveling artistic sourdoughs.
From them, he learned to write, draw, paint, and make pancakes.
Later, he attended film school at Columbia College in Chicago.
After graduating with honors, he moved back to Alaska to start his film career by mining the vast reservoir of stories buried there.
